Josef Woodson graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelors of Dance Arts degree. In New York City, he studied ballet, jazz, and modern dance at the Joffrey School, The Ailey School and at Steps on Broadway. Josef went on to dance with Ailey II, where he performed works by Ron Brown, Milton Myers, Alvin Ailey and Shen Wei. Josef has also worked with the Peter Sparling Dance Company, Donald Byrd/The Group, Sokolow Now!, and with Michael Thomas’ Motion Theater Lab. He is currently both Rehearsal Director and principal dancer for Skin Dance Company.

Mr. Woodson has taught modern dance, jazz, tap, and hip-hop throughout the United States and abroad. Mr. Woodson is a Teaching Artist for Education in Dance and the Related Arts and New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). He has also taught at Creative Outlet’s Young Artist Program in Brooklyn and his work, JOURNEY, was performed at the 2011 Dancewave Kids Café Festival. Josef has taught at Aileycamp Staten Island and was an Alvin Ailey Performing Artist for the New York Board of Education. Josef currently teaches at Queensborough Community College as an adjunct professor.

Josef is a member of Actor’s Equity and has over 15 years of performing and teaching experience. In 2008, Mr. Woodson choreographed at Breath Performing Arts in Tokyo, Japan. He also danced at Tokyo Disney Resort for several years. Mr. Woodson served both as line captain and dancer for Mystic Rhythms, Encore, and Big Band Beat at Tokyo Disney Sea. In 2007, he performed in the Celebrate The Season Christmas show at the Magic Kingdom and was a featured dancer for American Idol finalist Katherine Mcphee in Disney’s Christmas Day Parade on ABC.

In addition to his teaching and performing experience, Josef is a certified Fitness professional. He has been an ACE certified Personal Trainer since 2002. He is also a certified Pilates Mat and Reformer Instructor and is thrilled to teach Zumba to anyone who wants to move and feel the rhythm of the music! He currently teaches group fitness classes and Pilates at Crunch and Williamsburg Movement and Arts Center in New York City.
